FAQUING XPOSED

· What/Why is Xposed

From the very beginning polaroid photography was strongly connected to a new and intense way of exposing and picturing the other you: for the first time every single picture could be a little secret between you, yourself and your camera. From the year 1948 on, the Polaroid-revolution gave all people the chance to expose and picture their deepest whishes, obsessions, dreams, phantasies without leaving the cosy retreat of their privacy.
Because of our main aim to celebrate all aspects and the full strenght of analog instant photography, we carefully integrated the Xposed section to the polanoid project, revealing the immortal power and amazing magic of a medium that captures feelings like no other.

· What are the prerequisites for entering the Xposed section?

Only registered polanoid.net members, older than 18 years can access Xposed and see the "Xposed cover page" with the thumbs showing the latest submissions.

In order to be able to "get in deeper", to see the actual Xposed submissions, you have to be an "Xposed member" yourself.
To become an "Xposed member", you have to submit at least one picture yourself, which has to be accepted by 10 existing Xposed members.

· How do I submit a picture to Xposed?

On the "Xposed cover page", click the [Submit your pix] button.
You will get redirected to your own pictures, with the "private" filter being preselected, and see the "Xposed-submission box" just below the picture-title in the right-hand-side, blue "picture info tab".
Choose your "submission mode" (level of anonymity) and click the [Transfer Picture to Xposed] button. After confirming your choice once more, a copy of your picture will be published in the Xposed section and immediately be visible there.
If this is your first submission to Xposed, the "submission mode" will also determine your level of "Xposed membership" (see next question/answer) once your submission has been accepted.

· What about the 3 different Submission modes / 3 levels of Xposed membership?

Currently there are three different levels of "Xposed membership":
(1) "Anonymous membership", (2) "Onymous membership" and (3) "Full Avowing membership"
The "submission mode" of your first submission to Xposed determines your inital membership level, you can upgrade your membership level with every new submission however.
These levels, on the one hand determine how the picture (depending on it's submission mode) is presented to other Xposed members - and on the other hand, how the pictures of other members are presented to you (depending on your level of membership). The differences are as follows:

(1) completely anonymous submission / "Anonymous membership"
The only level available when Xposed was launched in October 2005. The idea was to provide complete anonymity, so everybody would be able to be at ease and submit personal private material without any concerns about compromising themselves, "exposing without exposing oneself".
With this mode of Xposed-submission, the picture completely looses all connection to the account that it was uploaded to, the picture completely "forgets about it's origin".
The (logical) consequences are:
you can not edit/delete the picture anymore, once it has been submitted.
you can not receive notifications for comments being written for this picture.
you can not reply to comments written to this picture.
your username will not appear above the picture (SHOT by ..)
the picture can not be voted for XofTheWeek.

The consequences of being an "Anonymous member" are:
you are not able to collect favourites.
you are not able to see other Xposed member's favourites.
you are not able to see the usernames above pictures submitted by level(3) members.

This submission mode/level of membership is strongly NOT RECOMMENDED anymore, it actually only exists for historical reasons.
level(2) gives you basically the same amount of privacy/anonymity and has none of the mentioned disadvantages.
however in cases of pronounced paranoia you are of course still free to choose this mode.

(2) Onymous submission / "Onymous membership"
The recommended mode if you don't want to reveal your identiy while submitting to Xposed.
Your username will not be displayed above the picture, so the submission will stay "anonymous" - no other member will know who submitted the picture.
The main difference to level(1) is that (in the database) the picture will stay connected to your account, so that none of the disadvantages of level(1) will be present:
you can still edit/delete the picture after it has been submitted.
you can receive notifications for comments being written for this picture.
you can reply to comments written to this picture.
your username will NOT appear above the picture (SHOT by ..)
the picture CAN be voted for XofTheWeek.

The advantages of being an "Onymous member" are:
you can collect favourites.
you can put pictures on your ignore list.
however, as a level(2) member: you are still not able to see other Xposed member's favourites.
you are still not able to see the usernames above pictures submitted by level(3) members.

(3) Fully public submission / " Full Avowing membership"
Like level(2) - with the difference that:
your username will appear above the picture (SHOT by ..), visible for other level(3) members.

Further privileges of "Avowing members":
you can see usernames above pictures submitted by level(3) members.
you can see and access other "Avowing members'" 'Xposed'-tab and 'X-vorites'-tab on their profile pages.
you can accept or reject new Xposed aspirant's submissions.

· What if I already have level(1) pictures in Xposed and want to raise my membership level?

If you are already level(1) Xposed member and want your anonymous submissions (or some of them) to be de-anonymized and connected to your account, so they can be voted for and you raise your membership level, send an email to the admin and provide the URL of the Xposed pictures that you want to have de-anonymized (copy/paste the URL from the black bar on bottom of each page). If possible, please also provide evidence that the picture was uploaded by you - you can include the "trash-code" you received when transfering your picture to Xposed, if you still have it - or send the link to the private picture in your account, if you kept a copy when xposing your picture.

· How can I remove a picture I submitted to Xposed?

To remove (or edit) a picture you submitted in mode (2) or (3), you simply click the [edit] button that is visible below the thumbs on the left side of the page when you are viewing "your" Xposed pictures. Editing and deleting works the same as with "normal" pictures.
If you want to have one of the pictures you submitted in completely anonymous mode removed, please send an email to the admin and provide the "trash-code" you received when submitting the picture.

· What is XotW?

XofTheWeek is the Xposed equivalent of ShotOfTheDay. Due to the lower number of Xposed submissions, this prize (an unsaleable.com coupon, worth 20 EUR) is only awarded once a week, every wednesday at 6:06 AM  (CET). At the moment, unlike for SotD, for XotW no complicated vote calculation takes place, but just the picture with the highest number of votes wins. In case of equal number of votes, the system throws a dice.
