I will now going into full pestering mode:

Gee, a Polanoid forum would be nice.

I have been gone for awhile, but the deadly siren call of instant photography has summoned me again.

A lot has changed around here. However, you know what hasn't? NO FORUM !!! Please give this site a forum! This is the central spot on the web for all things Polaroid and the only place where a Pola forum could thrive and stay active.

Please make it happen for the future of Polaroids !!! love and peace

I am not afraid to say it:

Merry Christmas to all Pola-people!

Let there be Peace on Earth.

I really wish this site would start a forum. This free for all "news" thang is nice, but the randomness and the fact that no one ever really responds to legitimate questions is a bit annoying sometimes.

O.K. I am drunk off Kentucky bourbon and decided to try one more time. Folks, I feel this is a critical time to be a Polaroid user. In my previous news, I mentioned that Polaroid is discontinuing 80 series packfilm, rendering many Polaroid cameras useless, including the much loved Holga (Holgaroid) film back. I really felt there would be more concern about this news. I hate to keep bitching but this really saddens me. I know that the Polaroid company is losing money like a drunk in Las Vegas, but I feel their only hope is to produce the films that cater to artists or lovers of all things retro. They are killing the films that cater to these markets. I feel that very soon we will only have 600 integral film and while that is better than nothing, it is limited in options.
There is probably not a damn thing we can do about it, the company is more concerned with cheap TV sets and digital cameras they can brand the name on. However, if you love using these products and Polaroids are a part of your life (which I would think is most people on this wonderful site) then we should all be very concerned. Thanks for reading my drunken meanderings... time to pour another tall bourbon and Coke. Much Love!

The sound of crickets.

All the response to my news.

I thought I had some hot gossip.

Okay, it is true. 80 series packfilm is being discontinued. I just confirmed by looking at 87 packfilm on Polaroid.com. Polaroid again is giving this lame explanation:
"Please be advised that Polaroid will be discontinuing 87 film within the last 3 months of 2006 due to the phasing out of components used in the production of this film. "

I know times are tough for Polaroid and they are trying to survive. But, the only difference between this film and 600 series packfilm is the size. It is the same emulsions, same everything except size! Did Polaroids paper cutting machine break down or something!!!! How can it cost them too much to keep this film on the market when they are already making the same product on a larger piece of paper? I think the writing is on the wall and the 600 series packfilm will soon be gone as well. Sad sad days. I have never cared much for Fuji products... but they may be our only hope for a packfilm future.

I just heard that Polaroid is discontinuing the 80 series packfilm next and manufacturing expected to cease by the end of the year. If this is true, 2 of my packfilm cameras (Electric Zip and Square Shooter) will be obsolete! I guess I will also stop lusting for a Holgaroid back. Time to do some stocking up I guess.

I have good news and bad news. Well, the bad news is that my thrift store Spectra camera appears to not function properly now. It just won't spit the film out, although the motor turns.
The good news is that I just read that the designer of the SX-70 optics and the Quintic optics on the Spectra system was from my town (Louisville, Kentucky). His name was Dr. James Gilbert Baker.
It is always nice to hear someone do something with their life that comes from your town. sorry for the rambling.

wooo hooooo! A little thrift store excursion today turned up a Spectra camera in near mint shape. I bought some film, popped it in, and after a few stubborn refusals to eject the black cover... she sprang to operational life!!! $4.00 has added another jewel in my polaroid collection. Spectra images coming soon!!!!!!!!
