About Me:
After studying political science, communication and sociolinguistics, Merel Zwart (Amsterdam, 1968) forged a career as an it-consultant before finding her true vocation: photography. Politics and linguistics remain core elements of her work in which she explores the architectural illusions and disillusions of utopian endeavours.

In her project ‘Utopitect’, Merel (re)constructs images of political ideologies and technological progress, taking the viewer back in time, yet at the same time, offering a critical view of the future. Her autonomous/documentary work blurs the boundaries of past and present, dreams and reality, progress and stagnation, emotion and reason.
