wishes
But what happens when your wish doesn't come true?
The branches of these Wish Trees were aching from the weight of thousands of wishes. I felt overwhelmed just looking at them. My heart hurt when I read through some of them because I know they wouldn't or didn't come true.
"I wish John McCain will become our next president." "I wish my dad didn't have to die." "I wish I could travel back in time."
I almost didn't tie my wish on the tree because I was afraid of what would happen if mine ended up in the pile of unfulfilled wishes. I sat at a table for a really long time wondering if there was some other wish that was more realistic. After sitting there for a good part of an hour, I walked around and read some more wishes and was surprised to see that people had the same wish as me. So I tied mine to a branch and walked away.
Maybe in reality, we get more than just one wish, and when one of them doesn't come true, we just make another one and hope for the best. But I'm an optimist. Mine's going to come true.
