Tip:
They bloomed again today,
Sleepy poppies in the wheat,
They envelopped all our fields,
Blooming, as they do – in red!

Do you know, oh my mother,
What kind of flowers those are?
Growing there in the fields,
So very pretty – in red?

Bitter are those fruits, my daughter,
What is growing is sorrow,
Instead of the golden wheat,
Weeds have sprouted out there!

The peasant has tended the field,
The brigand plundered the world;
Took from the serf his land,
Trampled upon his just rights.

Sowed with the serfs' own blood,
Mixed with curses and rebellion;
Watered with tears and with sweat,
That's what makes them so red!
