Tip:
The "Portal" series generally requires 2 exposures. One for the portal and one for the visual narrative.
the portal's are white neon photographed against black with smoke coming through the opening. Absolute chaos. There's very little control with smoke. After the initial exposure, the pre-exposed portals are stored back in the box, until needed. I usually try to keep about 20 available, because registration in the subsequent exposures is a bit dicey (a gamble) even with tracings and little reminders on the outside of the Polaroid. I still work in the darkroom, which is one of the reasons that I gravitate to the Type 55 pos/neg, although I'm comfortable scanning the negs to make prints that exceed my print capabilities in the darkroom. I'll tone the darkroom prints and the pigment prints as well.
Feel free to make inquiries regarding any techniques in my work. I am willing to share any information that I can. I can probably offer some tips about emulsion lifting, so ask away.
