A Little Bit of Pixie Dust (New York)
He said, "Could you make one of those miniature landscapes you do for each of the places we've been to on our Polaroid journey? For Enschede, Vienna, New York and Arles? Something that symbolises the place and commemorates your visit on Polaroid?"
"Sounds fun," I said.
But then he said, "Great. Can you do them by Friday morning, please?"
I gulped.
With the deadline looming and no idea how fast I would progress, I decided to recycle the idea and some of the bits I'd used in my recent New York shot and make a new version of it (I couldn't use the original shot as a contingency reserve, because it needed to be in landscape format). I thought I could keep this on stand-by in case I ran out of time. And in the end, this tactic saved me from failure, because despite working all weekend and every week night, I wouldn't have had enough time to make a brand new landscpace for New York. I'm slightly miffed about it, because I feel as if I've missed producing something that would have been fun, but I do still quite like this and I'm glad I took this precaution.
This one was for New York.

I've already described how I did this on the original b+w shot. The differences are: I printed out the Polaroid collage smaller, took a different New York picture, added some falling miniature Polaroids, which I also printed on overhead foil, cut-out and arranged on top of the other foil (they're a bit hard to make out, though - you need to look closely around the bottom right). Plus I used 669 film. (And yes - the colour took me by surprise. I was using a combination of a daylight lamp and warm electric lamp, so I suppose it was this mixture of lights and the fact that I was anxiously biting the heads off blackcurrant Jelly Babies as I waited for the development that made this turn out in this shade.
