About 18 months ago I was waiting for a train to take me to a job I hated. The light was kind of nice, I had my camera on me (a 1000) but I couldn't see anything worth photographing. Then I looked down at the 'Mind the gap' sprayed on the edge of the platform, and started thinking of making a montage of words. I didn't immediately know what I wanted it to say, but thought I'd photograph the 'The' as inspiration might come to me later. Then it hit me. I remembered that an old girlfriend had these Pixies lyrics (Where is my mind) as the wallpaper on her phone. I always thought it was cool as it was one of my favourite songs. So I decided to snap the 'Mind' instead and make a Polaroid collage of these lyrics. I set myself the challenge of only photographing the words when I came across them in the world - I could not write them myself or engineer a photo opportunity in any way. It took me a year and a half but last week, I found my 'where'. It's kind of apt it should happen now as Pixies play three dates in London starting tonight. And also, I really have no idea where my mind is right now.

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself
Where is my mind
