Yew Tree, Kingley Vale Sussex #1
Kingley Vale
The reserve contains one of the finest yew forests in western Europe, including a grove of ancient trees which are among the oldest living things in Britain said to be 2000 years old.
Marauding Vikings raided Chichester and a great battle took place. The woods are said to be haunted by the Vikings who are buried where they fell in the wood. Lots of legends and folklore surround this site, with tales of buried treasure and Druids.
