The Spirit
I had the honour and pleasure to try and use some sheets of homemade instant film from Mr. Summer. Apart from the fact how meticulously (and lovely) they've been made I, of course, have been _very_ curious not only about the HOW but also about the WHAT. And let me, for now, sum it up with this image as following: Though it is not _really_ instant (you have to fix the negative, not only bath it like 55, so minutes are critical and you better do it later at home), though the paste ages quickly (the estimate for now was two weeks in a homemade pod, but stress-testing with cold and travel showed up less unfortunately), and though the positive is "far" from a bw-print - I love it. For the following reason, and that's why I show this one here, at the one and only site for instant film lovers: It's a joy. It's a material which materiality I can sense. AND - can work with.
Plus, I don't mind the appearance of the positive (better so see at the previous upload) at the time being: It reminds to the early albumen prints, so it has it's place. Also - the negatives (yes. it is positive and negative) are awesome. I know it from his results, and I can see it on mine with a loupe (they are way! sharper as well - a problem impossible polaroid films do have as well, btw). Lacking a good scanner at the moment, I can't show them to you for now. But - also for a reason, as I do care about the prints, regardlessly how much I love a negative. Especially in a time where it is difficult to get a real bw print at all.
I used the films during christmas in the cold, with freezing minus celsius degrees, with difficult light situations at the sea, I had one problem with my hardware (Polaroid film liked the newer holders better, Sosopan the older), and one with a pod of a film. I did make notes, but due to scanning for a hectic roid week I messed up the chronological order of the results before marking them on the backside, so I can't say anymore which one this is. I remember though, I pulled one a second time through the rollers, and be it just for a result of silver and light.

A result of silver and light. In one.

Danke, Laurenz.
