Tip:
the secret to a good self-portrait on a manually-focused camera:
1. stretch your arm in front of you as far away as you will hold your camera.
2. focus on your hand in the viewfinder, as if you are shooting your hand.
3. the focus is set up. don't change it! now move the camera to that hand, but facing your head, and take the photo.
same focal distance = focused shot!
