Veiled

Un.Veiled

This picture (and the following series) has many tiny approaches, all conected to oneanother.

Lately I have pondered on the word "soul" alot. Most people use the noun carefree and take it for granted. It is rooted in most cultures. Treasures many interpretations and attributions.

My current approach is the "expression of soul" or the "revelation of soul".

As you might have expected I am again alluding to the "selfportrait"- subject that has kept my attention for a long time now.

But also the general question of revelation and expression.
In particular towards people.
I think love has alot to do with "soul", or what ever you call it. Those whom you love and who love you back, they have a power - if you allow it - to reveal parts of your own soul, which you would not discover yourself, not on your own. They are there. Sleeping.
In deepest slumber. Some never awake. Others stretch and yawn on their own, others need a gentle kiss to open their eyes and blink into your inner world with surprise of their own existance.

I sometimes imagine myself full of endless pearls, some lying closely together others further off, in very dark room, all of different size, different shape, varied texture, substance, different filling...different sounds, tunes, melodies, coloures, tastes, scents...you might laugh here but that is how it feels to me :-) The point is; those pearls, again, are in deep slumber, and different strokes of light need to touch them (the intensity matters as well as the continuity, recurrence etc.) to wake them up and develope them, make them grow, develope..or stay the way they are..I don't know, I know my mind and imagination are weird, sorry.

Well, and in my imagination those pearls..you can hear them breathing all the time and they move now and then, depending on their "stage of existance"..and if that lightstroke touches them the correct way, something happens. They start to glow or glitter or grow or flower or ..giggle..what do I know...
those lightstrokes are - in my mind - many factors, either a person who just reaches into you setting off a few pearls here and there on the way, or another movement from the outside. (art, music, studying, reading, dancing, a to-death-experience, a scent...any kind of impulse from theoutside, intended or not, banal or not..

ah, I don't want to bore anyone with this "SouLiary"..

Back to the picture.
So, I tried to visualize the "veil" that keeps the "soul" from the outside. As you might notice the eyes play an important role here, as well as the light, the dreamy yet "harsh" bluriness..I don't know, I guess I tried to realize some kind of closeness, yet unreachability, something warm yet distant and cool. Like a shield, a glass, a veil between you and the "other".

Tip:
For the "idealization", "closeness yet distance", blurr and weird proportions as well as "dreaminess" and sureality I took a portrait and photographed it off my laptop-screen. I did not like the technique in general as usually people photograph other people's work.
I tried to use the effect and build a concept around it; so this is part of the end product.

I am aware of the incorrect date (tomorrow)...go figure ;-)
