Mycetozoans
Drawings from Ernst Haekel copied from the book "Art Forms in Nature". Haekel published more than one hundred plates of drawings of microscopic organisms between 1899 and 1904. Most of the animals he collected and drew came from the sea and include many species of jellyfish, sponges, crustaceans, starfish and corals. He was instrumental in cataloging and classifying many species of animals and fungi and for helping to create the taxonomic systems we still use today. The organism that i study, Dictyostelium discoideum is counted among the mycetozoans.
