Rest in Peace Drew
The beginning of the day was overcast. After shooting around the lake everyone else left to shoot the motel. Drew and I stayed behind to get those last few shots of the amazingly beautiful, if smelly, lake. Our gear was spread out haphazardly. Admittedly, Drew had WAY more gear than I do, but I still had a good dozen shots drying on the creepy submarine toy and my three cameras laying around. Then the sun came out. I shouted to Drew to pack it up, we have to go NOW!
The sun was punishing, beating down on us like an abusive husband. I shot this last one of Drew, one last memory of a good friend and started shoving my stuff into my bag.
The sun continued to intensify its assault. My hair started to smoke, my shoes to melt. Drew was so far gone...
I left him behind. As I made my way for the shade of the motel, what seemed like miles away, I yelled warnings to Drew, encouraged him to leave, to be quick. His agonized cries answered.
In the shade, safe, I hung my head. I had left a man behind....
