France2008: Vergigny
*Just returned from France, where we spent most of our time in Paris. We did a home swap, meaning a great young Parisian couple we'd never met stayed in our home in Healdsburg, while we crashed their flat in Paris (20e). I will be uploading shots from this trip for the next few days. This will either bore you to tears, or you'll follow along during a not-so-chronological Polaroid-only retelling of our too-brief trip to France.

About 100 miles south of Paris is a wee town called Vergigny, near Saint-Florentin. In this wee town lives a wonderful woman named Barabara, who moved to France from the U.S. over thirty years ago. Hearing the good word that we were on our way to Paris, Barbara--a total stranger--invited us to her wonderful chalet. We spent a day eating her food, listening to her stories and being chauffeured around the countryside to various historic towns where, well, lots of people died fighting for invisible beings over the centuries. We also got to see massive churches dedicated to these invisible beings, which were lighter, airier, and more cheerful than the dark claustrophobic architectural monsters we typically see in California.

Here, Andi sips coffee in Barbara's home. Given that you know neither me, nor Andi, this story is likely less than entrancing, but, well....that's what Flickr is for--peeks into the lives of strangers.
