and this is a very sad story.

i'm not sure of the actual age of the house itself, though i imagine it's quite old in general. it's been occupied by the same person (plus his wife...until she passed away several years ago) for longer than i've lived in this town...and i've lived here since the age of five.

last week, half of the house -- mainly the garage up to the living room, i believe -- went up in flames. it was a very sad sight to see. the resident is alright, save for a slight burn across his forehead; however, probably the only home he's ever known since lord-knows-when is now, for all intents and purposes, gone. the house will be torn down in the spring. in its place will probably be a trailer or a smaller house.

the owner is quite up in years, but in very good nick. he doesn't want to leave the town; and he'd rather live alone.
