Lighting this was a trip. I waited until it was mostly dark outside so the camera would use its longest shutter speed (1/4 sec?). Then while the shutter was open I triggered an external flash from the left side pointing up at a reflector a couple feet above the nest.

Also, I had close-up filters taped to the front of the camera (+6). With those on, 6 inches away from the filters is what's in focus. I did cheat, though, and jiggled the nest to get them to open up their mouths. :)
