After Virginia....
My love of lighthouses began...well, not quite true. As a kid sailing on our boat they meant that we were near land, and civilization, and people, and all those other luxuries landlubbers experience daily. Lighthouses were welcoming beacons.

Ironically, these days I go to find lighthouses and inevitably discover they are in the most isolated places, the ends of the earth down thousands of steps, or on unreachable islands. These days i go hunting them to get away from it all, to remember the great dangerous expanse of the sea...yet there was a time when they symbolised creature comforts.

Either way, I still feel compelled to travel to the lighthouse...
