Creepier than the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, I have a tendency of getting up in the middle of the night, completely unconscious and wandering around. I also suffer from hypnogogia on certain rare occasions, something more frequently known as sleep paralysis. One of the most common effects of sleep paralysis is the sensation that there is a malevolent being in the room with you, very often sitting on you and crushing your chest. hence we get the word "nightmare" from Old English, meaning literally, "The crusher that comes in the night."
