All dressed up and nowhere to go
I find it incredible that at 87, my grandmother always looks so pristine. Find her on any day and she will be scrubbed and pressed.
And for who? The snooker players on the tv, or the stars of Coronation Street? Because that is what her world is reduced to now.
She doesn't clean her house anymore, and has to have home help, and never lets her cleaners touch her clothes. Yet she is always immaculate.
Her favourite things to say to me are "don't you know what an iron is" and "pull your trousers up".
Once a tailor, always a tailor. I think she will go to her grave with a thimble, tailors chalk, a fabric tape measure and a reel of thread...
