i bet this still would of won without the black tape...
but my goodness...
it makes it!
just perfect to me...
and then the hues you chose to shoot.
soft... light... subtle...
all with that big black slash,

i do not say this often...
genius.

Thank you very much!

this greek word sounds to difficult to me... try again!
^
This was a simple "O, Thanks".
But it was written with spaces between letters because greek characters cannot been displayed well together in this site. I can write in 'greeklish' (greek with latin characters) but it would be more difficult for you.

I enjoy your images together like this, each one featuring its own black band, with the one of the radio and the ones showing people being my favorites in conjunction with your chosen theme.

And to perhaps redundantly answer your rhetorical question as to who really cares - I believe there are some that have such extraordinary empathy, imagination and a desire to be helpful (or/and be needed) that they may end up caring enough to attempt and do something in their power (by becoming a humanitarian aid worker, for example.)

But I'd say that the large majority of people cannot react with such sincerity and consequence to news of anything outside of their immediate realm of experience. I think that's one of the fundamental travesties of the news media...it feeds us information that we may have rational but only scarce emotional use for. This disconnect of wrapping our heads around the factual content of news and us barely twitching an eyebrow or blinking an eye in reaction to it doesn't strike me as particularly hypocritical in and of itself.

I don't however see how other people's tragedies would make one feel better. How did you intend that to be understood? That tragedies far off remind you how fortunate you are?

Dear friend, thanks a lot for your long but interesting comment. I think we agree. This sentence of yours: The large majority of people cannot react with such sincerity and consequence to news of anything outside of their immediate realm of experience. is the key.

A human being is not necessarily humanitarian. Egoism and arrogance, the two little brothers, are man's managers. Not always, but I think you see what I mean.

As for other people's tragedies, I think that they make someone feel better not only because they remind him how fortunate he is, but also because he can use them as an inspiration (or something like that) to show how conscious person he is. It is about showing off and making money sometimes. An interesting example is when a music star makes a song for a war (because he is so conscious) and he sells it for he and his firm to make billions and imagemaking of course.

Thanks for this little chat.
