2006-11-28 // 12:15:43 tonkatsu76 Something is worht what ever your willing to pay for it. I just bought a 680 couple weeks ago and I paid 250$, abit much but I dont give a shit, I dont need to tell how I found it at some grage sale for 5$, and I dont want to sit around seeing if I can get it cheap on ebay. when I want something, I want it now!! Thats a beautiful Camera man

Yeah. Those 680s are worth however many pennies they might cost ya - agreed.
2006-08-07 // 21:44:11 sixblueten exactly that. i had been treating it like an old sx. . .disregarding the focal POWER of the 680!

What model SX-70 do you have that doesn't get as close as a 680? Maybe you've been too timid with a manually-focused model? My SX-70s do 10.4 inches just like the 680 does, whee.
^
...as demonstrated in this very image, speaking of which :-)
2006-08-07 // 16:46:31 sixblueten Well, it's a beauty. I had suspected that the value of the 680 would shoot after Time Zero expired, as this now becomes the very finest "SX70" that is still fully functional. I'm with you on the 680 over the 690, especially this choice model. I'm on my second 680 now and am very protective of it! LouO showed me how to finally get the most out of it.

Those prices are getting steeper, but I find them almost tolerable for mint-condition 680s. I've seen an allegedly unopened box 690 go for in excess of $500 which for me crossed the threshold of reason (especially for an ugly young sibling of the beautiful 680.)
What did Lou show you? Do tell! I betcha it was something rather obvious such as getting to within a foot of your subject. It seems like I read a remark of yours here or elsewhere that suggested as much, so perhaps I'm just reiterating that while making it sound like I got a sixth sense :-P
2006-08-07 // 08:17:11 demoforest this is better than a woman ulf.....dont be in love with the girl you work with....this camera is worth dying for.....men will kill for it...men like you and me..i cant believe you still think of women when you own this.....................y ou sicken me ulf lol.

Oh geez! You just had to bring that up, didn't you? Uhm :-P I saw the coworker girl I have a crush on make out with someone else last night so that put a little damper on the crushery (besides getting involved with coworkers being a patently bad idea in the first place) ;-)
I'm glad I didn't have to die or kill for this camera, but you betcha I'm delighted to call it my own.
Come to think of it, I've been thinking a lot about this camera and very little about the coworker crush all day long, so your take on things does hold up. Teehee. May the monks of Polaroid live long and prosper!
2006-08-07 // 07:00:11 sixblueten i'm with lou. though, technically, the 690 is a bit finer. not worth the money, but a bit better with the improved tech on the inside. this looks like a minty SE . . .tho' the only difference with the SE is the blue button. don't think I've seen a 680 in better shape. ebay?
^
What does make the 690 technically finer in your experience? Replacing the ICs driving the exposure system of the 680 with a microchip in the 690 sounds relatively minor to me. And the 690s were made in Japan, whereas the 680s were made in the US. The Japanese do make fine cameras, I suppose.
Aesthetically I definitely give the 680 SE the clear nod - the blue release button (*swoon*), the metal detailing around the lens opening and the electric eye, as well as the beautiful Polaroid colors on the front bezel next to the flash make the 690 which misses these little flourishes look dull in comparison.
And yessir, this is an Ebay haul - $283. I watched about three weeks' worth of bidding that included maybe two 680 SEs that went for less than that. I couldn't resist this one because it's the exact model I'd been hoping to find and the seller documented the shape the camera was in so thoroughly that I felt comfortable spending that kind of money.
2006-08-07 // 06:53:01 louobedlam oh she is just so pretty.

Hee! A part of me just wants to keep this camera in its box and only take it out whenever I need some cheering up. But you know how it is...we all gotta do what we gots to do!
