I am using a HP 3210=medium range printer. I have a larger epson, but it cost so much to print out that i only it for final copy photo that will return on the investment. I found that the HP does great with lighter weight water color paper. The obvious advantage is you can "color" all you want off the same image once the file is scanned form the negative.

i have used a set of Gouache opaque colors and water, and rubbed rubbed and scraped off excess until only a thin bit of color was left. i've also tried acrylic artist inks thinned with water. BUT....i never scanned the negative onto water color paper...my printer can't handle that. i painted directly onto my negative...so one chance was all i had ;-( what kind of printer do you have that handles water color paper? i want one!

the negative paper surface also doesn't "take" the color like water color paper must...
