its funny because as it dies it almost gains a greater beauty. Have you ever seen any of Sally Manns "what remains" work? She become very fascinated in death, and amongst other slightly more morbid work photographed the remains of her greyhound. I have the book and have remained ambivalent on it, but it really is quite moving. I seem to have managed quite a sidetrack from a dying flower though!

a beautiful picture, hugh. the japanese have a special term 'mono no aware' which means something similar to loss or regret and can be best described by the feeling one gets when sees a falling cheery blossom. it is a hard one to be put in words unless you are a 14the century japanese poet:

This much I have learned;
the blossom that fades away unseen,
is the flower of the heart
Of one who lives in this world.
