this one totally invokes images of 70's runners, or tennis players. but it does have the feeling of a stock sports photo, something a journalist would have shot of a person they didn't know, smiling at someone else. as i have said before, portraits are not really my thing, so i am not sure that i have the depth of knowledge about them to give a good critique...

I think this one is great, portrait photo's are a bloody nightmare to get spot on, I don't even try most of the time, at least not with my Polaroids. Can't say I would change a thing great eye contact.

Thanks. Jenelle points out below that there isn't much emotional content, which is a solid critique. Wasn't intending for this to be anything other than a good capture of her face - for her to have - and a camera other than the plastic-lenses Big Shot would have really focused on her eyes better.. .

this is the only one of Andi that doesn't look like a vacation photo to me. what was all your huffing and puffing about again? i'm missing the grand connection of a great photograph you were talking about. is it here in these images for you? it's not in them for me.... but that's my opinion and my relating to your work.

for the sake of being constructive: i think you would do well to experiment with angles a bit more. also, with a subject you are apparently (from the text you wrote) familiar with, i don't see a connection - where's the love/hate/fear/adoration, etc. you have of this person. it's just not coming through to me.

what was the point?

The point of the photos? Or the point of your grandstanding? Heh. The point of the photos is as stated in the description - to hang out with a friend and take pix while she (in this case) is doing her thing. Nothing greater than that.

Working with new angles is definitely something I need to work on. Sharon had rollerblades on the whole time, and was moving too quickly for my poor little Pola to keep up. . .way too difficult for my limited equipment and skills.

The huffing and puffing - well, you'll have to go re-read it - none of it was too terribly difficult to decipher!

Portrait photography is something I cannot fathom. Louobedlam seems to be a natural, for example. I'm trying to work on it, but as you've noted, the results are, to date, mediocre at best.
