There is nothing wrong with being concerned with equipment; if one is an amateur this is our hobby and we can pursue whatever branch of it, including a highly focused interest in the equipment, we like - so that it is perfectly valid to be totally interested in the equipment to the exclusion of any development of photographic skills IF that is what one wishes. Of course, most enthusiasts like equipment AS WELL as trying to develop their skills, but I regard that almost as two distinct hobbies and I tell people that I am interested in photography AND cameras. It is not my job and I am not trying to make money from it so it doesn't matter if most of my efforts are s**t (as most of them in fact are lol!)
