^ I'd just heard on the radio that scientists had announced that global warming had passed the point of no return and was now unstoppable, and I thought back to the time when noone had heard of "global warming" and suddenly realised what a very hopeful and comforting sound the phrase had. If someone had travelled from the 1970s or even 1980s to the present day and heard that same announcement, I think their heart would start to pump with excitement and disbelief as they concluded that the human race must have somehow finally achieved world peace. Hey! Stop thinking up a science fiction film plot! I forbid you! Do you hear me? I absolutely forbid you!
