"i have the beach to myself" - if could say same thing, it means my dream come true :)
i like this composition, very interesting...

oh yes--i know what you mean...and the beach at night is wonderful, too, when you can close your eyes and just listen to the waves... ;)

"the chicks are packed man, the chicks are packed"

i reckon the orphans are my favourite gang. because they're crap and the underdogs and not even invited to Cyrus's gathering. i feel like that. what a good gang needs is strong leadership. i hope you lead your band of lezzas with some fucking muscle..

^
oh--you are right--i forgot completely about the orphans!! how sad, and ironic. you don't mess with the orphans!! yeah--i know what you mean, about that feeling.

average.

ffs.

you Lizzie you.

(i'm sorry if this comment is also average. it made me laugh. but it's sounding like you've watched the movie now? so hopefully you'll know what a lizzie is...)

you got that right, and i'm packing, too. me an my frizzy -haired friends are gonna bop you.

(pretty cool music, and i liked the shots of the subway stations and the trains a lot. hasn't changed that much!! )

ahh don't worry. that's an early plot development. but it is probably the best line in the film...

"it was the Warriors, they shot Cyrus" said in a whiny weasel like Brooklyn twang. absolute classic bit of cinema. look out for it.

it's really hard not to love that film. so many good lines and massive amounts of ridiculousness.

beware, CDR, for i am armed with knowledge of pop culture in one hand, and a baseball bat in the other. and i'm badder than a gang of mimes.

i'm glad Joster mentioned the Warriors first.
They shot Cyrus.
you shot this chair.
it's good.

i am the only person in history, in the world, who hasn't seen this movie...i''m so ashamed--i'll try to rent it tonight!!!! i promise! (my friends have told me and told me to see it since i moved here 5 years ago!)
p.s. thanks for spoiling it for me, anyway. now i know what happens to cyrus. (who's cyrus?)
^

haha! this is a funny and smart comment, now that i know the story.

before, it was just average.

Coney Island is so mysterious to me. I picture it as kind of a cecum (is that the word? That dead-end part of our intestines?) to New York, almost deserted. This could of course be very wrong - I've never been to either NY or Coney Island - but that's the picture I've made for myself from everything from "The Warriors" to friends stories about the place. And now this polaroid adds to that image. Is it really that dead?

(btw, five Carson books arrived last week - haven't had the time to plunge into them yet but the first sentence of "The Anthopology of Water" makes me shiver - it's so good! I'm going to finish the Tranströmer book that I bought last night ("The memories are watching me", 1993) and the Saint-Exupéry I got from Stefan, then it's Carson, Carson, Carson. Thanks for the tip!)

oh my gosh--what a great comment--i will answer this properly soon! short answer, for now: Coney Island is not dead. Yet. This is a beach, on a cold February day, where no person in their right mind would be found taking polas. (well...it's no Lapland, either....) But what you don't see (my fault, for not showing you!) are the people working to get the rides ready for the opening on March 16th--it was cool--watching them test the lights and hearing some whirring of machinery...must go--more soon!

great series. perfectly captures a mood.

aw--thanks, Arne. it was easy to capture the mood--the polas are covered in sand, snow, seagull feathers, and grease from fried food bought at Brighton Beach...!
