please don't fold it up. i wish you many more such compliments and comments to come, and many wonderful pictures to go with them.

^

how much your words mean to me! well, the problem is, i simply can't express how much...such a lovely and unexpected wish...gives me the courage to keep trying. if the phrase "thank you" followed by exclamation points expresses anything--know that i am sending you hundreds!

thank you!!!

actually i created this account initially to be able to add this picture to a favlist the day you uploaded it, i really love it!
so this seems like the best place to say thanks for taking such great pictures.

^

i don't think i will ever--not ever--receive a more wonderful compliment; i think that maybe i should just fold up my camera and stop right now. wow...thank you so much...i'm a bit speechless!

except to say--how strangely exciting! i was just about to comment on the lovely, subtle pola you posted today, and then i get this stunning message. thank you so much, again. i can't express how much i appreciate it...

Yes! Very near. Close to Asbury Park and Red Bank. My friends and I were all Springsteen fans long before he went big and you could still find him playing at clam festivals (when the local clams were still edible). No arena-rock then, no sirree.

And don't get me started on Kevin Smith.

To answer the long-dangling question: near Sandy Hook. It was too far to feel part of the NYC vortex then, but now with the high-speed ferries, it probably qualifies.
^

hello! is that near asbury park?

magic moment!
beauty!

^
oh--thank you! it was magical--but i was for sure not going to join them in that cold water!

...although.. THIS is my pick/vote/whathaveyou. This is great. We had some of these folks in NJ where I grew up. Whimsical nuttiness. Or is it nuttical whimsiness? Hmm - I like that phrase - I may have to borrow it - provided you don't mind.
^

hmmm--nautical whimsiness?

where in NJ? i didn't know you are from NJ! lovely borough.

it was a shocking experience, enough to last so long. i enjoyed it though, strange how some things you dislike at the time seem enjoyable or worthwhile after the fact ;) the water has soon thawed out- now i am just 'cool'.
^

very true--time changes the perception of experience so much, sometimes it is hard to hold onto the initial reactions. heehee--will update friends list soon--you are more than just cool!

was that a polar bear club? i did that once when i was six, it was crazy. i t will always be in my head.
^

yes! wow--six years old--what was that like?! did you do it at coney island? yes--i would think that would be an unforgettable experience! (i hope you don't mean that the freezing water will always be in your head.)

You can't possibly be vulgar anough to have two in two days. Can you?

But as this was my favourite of your uploadathon, i would be delighted if this strange gang of bathers and hounds made it all the way too.

even if i don't understand your tags, which sound like strange bra sizes to me.

^
granted, i'm pretty vulgar, but not THAT vulgar.

2 things. no, 3 things.

1) uploadathon--very nice.
2) you and arne. vulgar. that currywurst fella, too. 38 degrees F, or, for people of your ilk, 3 degrees C.
3) thanks for the note to vaporiss--i appreciate it, you stoner. (still practicing my complimentations.)

oh well! I was just thinking of another daredevil dog...
what a cerberus!

^

ha ha! maybe that's why the dog didn't like the freezing water--too accustomed to the warmth of Hades!

there is something over dog's head...
waves? foam?

^
oh! you have good eyes! yes, there were actually three dogs standing away from the freezing surf--that is the head of another dog! awkward, that...a two-headed dog...

wow!
^

they kept shouting to the dog and waving their arms at people on the beach--wanting everyone to come and join them. unfortunately, i was not wearing my bathing suit under my sweater and wool jacket.

g.
who is fahrenheit?
hm, i could only imagine they worship fahrenheit.

(btw, animals sleak in a language to you? or _just_ speak?)

^

well, they don't tell me stories about their christmas encounters or anything, but once in awhile i get a few words, or at least a knowing glance. ;)

wise dog...
^

well, i was the one with hat, wool coat, scarf, and gloves. all he had on was that miserable fur coat from last season.

i appreciate the Fahrenheit, i'm having an awful time when people say their degrees in Celsius! it was bad enough getting used to the crazy 24 hour clock!
i'm glad that dog can talk, i had a dream i was talking to a cat the other night and i thought it was weird but as long as you are also speaking to animals, i feel better.

^
i had the same thing happen to me when i studied in Quebec--i kept hallucinating i was in the military what with the 14 o' clock and all.
we are in this together, now that i wait by the new pics page for a daffodil to appear each day. it's like i want to adopt it, and have it write me letters about how great i am for sending it sweaters and a few pennies each month.

Some skipped to the left. Others to the right. The ocean grew impatient. "Make up your minds already. All to the left or all to the right. You are making me queasy."

Those skipping to the left stopped and began skipping to the right. Those who had previously been skipping to the right had a change of mind and began frolicking in a leftward direction.

The ocean lost patience, and swallowed them all.

^

oh--wonderful! i want to see this illustrated in that gorey crosshatch now! you know, whenever you have time.

is looks freezing, was it freezing? another amazing shot doll!
^
it was 38 degrees F, or, if you have been converted, 3 degrees Celsius. and it started raining soon after. I wasn't impressed. big deal! i said. so what! said the dog.

Is there some elusive artifact in the center of this mèlange of humanity, or are they just worshiping the cold Atlantic waters?
Preparing for a swim to Brighton perhaps?
I count one sane soul among the masses, on four legs.

^
matey:

sorry for the late parley. there is a clue as to who these people are in one of the comments from coney island postcard: toward brighton. the comment also holds 25,000 gold doubloons. aaaarrrgghhh!

Bathing cap occultism. A remarkable image. Truly. Lord knows what the pup is thinking.

^

poor thing. the occultists kept calling to him, to get him to come into the water and join their odd ritual. he went with me, in the time machine. i dropped him off in Ireland on the way back, near a green field with lots of sheep and a pretty shepherdess.

crazy crazy yanks.
this is a scene from the heyday of Victorian public bathing, right?

^

yes! glad you noticed. my time machine finally worked. a bit disappointing, seeing all those victorians in speedos and bikinis. victorian " fashion" and " manners" --what a cruel joke!
