we have to meet one day--what a happy thought, and what a pleasure that would be!

oh--i love that quote from Pascal--thank you! makes me laugh just thinking about it...makes me think of my grandmother, who always threw so much salt over her shoulder, her floor was gritty! ;))

^
it's a great quote, i know :o) he said that when somebody asked him about the horseshoe he had above the door frame surprised because this person thought Pascal was not superstitious.

i think all grandmothers believe in things like that. salt, ladders, black cats, sitting down after coming back home to get something which was forgotten to deceive the devil.

oh, and i still owe you the polish emigration explanation...

we have to meet one day!

No, this whole time I have been interested in the *left* foot of the brother who is fully in the frame. I immediately began to wonder about the toes of that foot.

^
you're right, this foot looks like it really wants to be asked about the toes' arrangement. another thing i forgot to write is how the brothers look on the second picture. they both struck exactly the same pose. with one leg in the front and a bot to the side and with hands in front pockets. it looks pretty cool i've got to say ;o)

love it, picture, as is and story. and you know what? it's not a bad omen. it just shows they do have the strong leg to run the shop. if one can say so. and you framed it. (i mean, otherwise, the shop-sign wouldn't have been in the frame. and that would be a bad omen maybe ;-)
^
you might be right, g. the sign on the picture is a good sign, indeed.

the strong leg, yes i guess one can say so. but for sure it would be better if there was an arm and a leg :o)

glancing quickly at the thumbnail, i thought this was taken while looking into a broken mirror--at least that didn't happen! i love the thought of the other pola hung in their bookstore cafe.

^
good point. a broken mirror = 7 years of misfortune
oh, superstitions... i think it was Pascal who said that they work even if you don't believe in them :o)

next time i'm in krakow, i'd have to check if the other picture, my second choco, is there :o)

Smiling wide. Marvelous. Although I know I should not be smiling wide at bad omens. I am sorry. Now I have remolded my face with my fingers and I am looking anxious.

I am studying his left foot. Do you think perhaps his second toe is longer than his big toe? Do you think toe irregularities are relevant if one is opening a bookstore in Krakow on a Wednesday or a Saturday?

^
I'm also smiling now but wasn't bursting out laughing on that Saturday afternoon. I took it as a profanity and even told the first brother it's like bounding on a cross in front in the middle of the church.

But then I thought it was sort of funny. I don't know my friend's left foot too well (btw, it's his right foot on the picture) but I don't think toes are of any importance in that case. Thumbs, yes.
