fantastic idea :) so so soooo lovely!!
^

oh--thank you, nanako!
i've been having fun experimenting with this camera--and cornstarch and broken pearl necklaces...though my apartment is now in shambles.

So how did you do this?

Did you have a photographer's assistant?

It's really amazing... And unlike me, don't think this is copying emilie at all. Quite unique.

^
yes, i had an assistant, because this camera has no viewfinder, no self timer, and doesn't fit on my tripod! it is a big hulk of an ID camera, with a pola back. but it has lights that you can position on the subject so you can approximate the all-important framing. for both, i had to make a little frame with my hands of what i wanted, and my assistant (who wore a spangled red swimsuit) aimed the lights in between, and then took the pic!

girl's broken dreams or star dust?
^

aha! yes, my first idea was akin to broken dreams--broke and scattered, i thought. but i didn't want to dedicate something so maudlin to emilie!

clever girl.

and what sensible shoes you always pick.

^
a pair for every occasion. these are my "oh no! my necklace just broke!" shoes. so then, afterwards, i had to go change into my "mustn't slip on scattered pearls! " shoes. v. sensible.

This is great. I love the shadow of that one pearl on your leg.
^

thank you for that comment, because i love your work! and so i painted the shadow on that leg myself, hoping you would like it.

So that little pearl there is actually out beloved pear, going his own way throughout Europe? I always knew he was a gem, I just didn't think it was so literal!

^

of course! pearl minus the L = ...!

I love what you've created here. Hope to see more pola-stories in this format!

The three little sibling pearls falling by your right leg does it for me. But then I wonder why that poor little pearl in the top right has to fall all by itself. Too distant relative to the others?

^

oh-thanks so much for that encouragement! i have so much fun with that ID camera, and also make such a big mess in the apartment.
yes, in fact, a distant relative. not like the others; prefers to go its own way, see more of the world, take chances. the world is its oyster! a small suitcase is dropping down, just out of view...

what camera did you use??
is the top one a selfportrait? i really like it!
and btw, this doesnt even look like a copycat to me, eventhough you did use the same technique. theres something unique about it, that's also very different from what you usually do. Very interesting, in my opinion!

^

i will have to take a picture of this camera--it's so funny! my friend rescued it from the human resources department at his workplace. it's an ID camera with a polaroid back, and since the department is going digital, they were just throwing this camera away! no viewfinder, like i said, but it has a timer and you can change the exposure. yes, top is self portrait--actually, wearing a shirt i bought at kookai when i was in paris!!
(thanks so much!)

hahaha ;p
nice how you captured the very moment of the fall, and how the letters mimick that. that's a great idea!

^

the top shot was actually more difficult, because, you know--no viewfinder on those cameras, but the bottom one was fun, because it could be more random! like i said--it's difficult to copy you and do it well, so i am so relieved that you like this!

dont tell me you broke that necklace just for the pic though..?!
^

hee hee--necklace in top pic, no...
i bought a copy at a flea market for $1.00, and had a lot of fun breaking it and then slipping on the beads before they rolled out of sight under the furniture! *sigh*

oh! i love it:)) thankyou, girl!
and it's really good to see you back here. i've been missing your pics a lot!

^

oh! i'm so happy! kinda dorky, but i realized while i was trying your technique that it is very easy to make a *bad* copy-- you are really inimitable... you create such atmosphere and tell another piece of the story with your words.
thank you so much, dear-- i've been missing all of you!
