I got rid of the black stuff but didn't know that could be replaced...
it worked anyway so I might leave like that.

I need to do exactly the same job on my Canonet 28 - I have been putting it off for weeks but must tackle it soon - the original seals are just a mass of black gunk and having got a kit from a nice gentleman in the USA I really have no excuse not to do it!

^ That would be Jon Goodman, right? I'm using one of his seal kits on my Canonet. I just need to find some time to finish the job.
