wow, das bild ist großartig, und die unglaubliche story setzt dem ganzen noch die krone auf. ganz abgesehen vom duft des psychiatrieformulars, den ich mir gerne vorstelle.

If you're already sleepy stop reading now 'cause this is really boring techy stuff; you get vignetting with the Mamiya Universal because the camera was designed for 120 roll film which isn't as big as the polaroid frame so the vignetting doesn't reach far enough into the frame to matter. When Polaroid got Mamiya to OEM the 600SE which is essentially the same camera they had to limit it to the 75mm,127mm and 150mm lenses which are the only ones with a large enough image circle to cover intant film, the 75mm even stretches to cover 5x4. So if you stick a polaroid back on a Mamiya you'll often get vignetting, it also depends on the dynamic range of the film, Polaroid 100 Sepia probably wouldn't be effected, I imagine Fuji100c would really show it. And it depends on the aperture (usually expressed by an f-number rather than "second largest" etc!!). Bizarrely, the rest of the photographic world thinks vignetting sucks and go to great lengths to avoid it, even more bizarrely the latest versions of professional software allow a vignetting effect to be added. You can wake up now. Btw, you and the pictures are beautiful.

A few years ago, I used to spend all my pennies at fleamarkets buying the crappiest old cameras I could find in my quest for any vignetting cameras that had escaped the purges of the photographic world. I love the things. I must say, when these pictures came out, I was very surprised that Mamiya would be seen dead building a camera that would produce such an effect. But that story explains it. Polaroid made 'em do it. What larks!

On another topic, I don't feel at home with the feeling of geeky pedantism involved in reeling off precise exposure times and f numbers in response to friendly picture comments. Especially when I'm answering someone who clearly doesn't primarily get off on the technology aspect of photography. Of course I have to consider settings like anyone else with a manual camera, but once a picture has been taken, it is no longer of very much interest to me and would most likely bore the pants off anyone else who didn't happen to be a total anorak. So I'm afraid you'll have to forgive me for continuing to draw a ladylike veil of imprecise appellation over such matters in future.

This picture is even a bit sad, which is a very interesting turn for a Esther.Z.Schnickenacke production. Gets my vote which is double valuable because i belong to an ethnic minority.

Yes, the background story is cool, but the motif itself is sad - or maybe just disturbing.

The feeling of it reminds me of the meaning of the tarot card "The Hanged Man".

:) I've never seen it vignette consistently like this. I've only seen it in 2 shoots, from all the ones I've taken with it.

I like it though. I hope it doesn't bother you.

I adore vignettes, to be honest. But I think it will probably only happen with open horizons and perhaps only with certain films and certain apertures. We shall see.

This was the second largest aperture. I suspect you are a more of a small aperture/long exposure man, and you rarely take open skies, that could be why you only saw it rarely.

Ich finde es total spannend. Kostüme liebe ich ja sowieso, und gestolene Kostüme von einem anderen Kontinent noch viel mehr! Störend war nur dass auf dem Etikett die Beschriftung "14 years to adult" stand. Soll das eine Andeutung über mein gesitiges Alter sein? Frechheit.

Danke! Das Paket mit dem Kostüm kam zusammen mit einem Brief - geschrieben auf der Rückseite eines alten Irrenhaus-Formulars. Das Papier roch nach Urin, Brausetablette und Formaldehyd.

Ich empfand eine Art Ehrfurcht, als ich diese Mamiya zum ersten Mal benützt habe. Sie hat schon so viele Abenteuer erlebt, war in so vielen faszinierenden Orten. Sie ist voll mit Kratzer und Verbrauchtsspuren. Ich bin mir immer noch nicht sicher, ob sie richtig funktioniert. Auslösen tut sie wieder, aber ob sie auch fokussiert ist mir noch nicht ganz klar.
