It looks like some kind of alien vortex. I always love to see something familiar rendered in an unfamiliar way. Wonderful!

^ thank you. after the first few photos i also noticed that these looked more like something out of a horror movie than the actually quite beautiful flower i had in front of me. just one of these days, i guess. :-)
