an interpretation of the five crucifixion wounds of the Christ.

i am not a religious person, though i reflect on it at times. religion, of course, has been a source of subjects, themes, and symbolism in art for years. this is an interpretation of the five puncture wounds, or holy wounds, suffered by Jesus during his crucifixion: one each through the hands and feet, and one in the side. it is composed of five photographs representing each wound. the photographs are arranged in the shape of a cross. within each photograph, horizontal and vertical lines converge to form a cross. the number five represents the number of wounds; the four "fives" represent each wound suffered from the cross and the four gospels of the New Testament. the green color represents the physical world: the universe, mankind, sin. yellow represents the spiritual world in the Judeo-Christian context: YHWH, JEHOVAH. the Christ is the spiritual incarnate within the physical world: the green and yellow together and suffered as one.
