Tragedy In Eggersville
Act I
For as long as the elders of Eggersville could remember, Captain Eggman had faithfully delivered the weekly egg to the village. The squeak of his cart brought children running and made old ladies drop their knitting needles mid-stitch. But Captain Eggman's family had fallen on hard times. The egg crop had crashed and he had taken to drinking corn liquor. As drunk as he was, it was a miracle that he made it as far as he did. As he rounded the last corner, the confluence of corn liquor, high speed and heavy cargo led to a spectacular crash. Struck dumb with shame Captain Eggman could not bring himself to look at the result of his folly.
Act II
The villagers gathered 'round the fallen egg. Some cried, others could not look, and the sound of rumbling stomachs portended troubled times ahead. It did not seem right to eat roadkill egg. The consensus was that a pyre would be built and a sacrament made to honor the fallen egg.
Act III
As a reminder of the dangers of egg transport and the fragility of life in Eggersville, the villagers erected a monument to the One Egg. There in the spring they gather with offerings of flowers and corn liquor. Often they recount the story to those who were not witness to that horrible day.
